Background

In 2005 the Dutch telecom and broadcast market seemed as one of the most competitive and saturated markets in West Europe. With as many as 5 Cable operators, additional IPTV entrants, and a broadband penetration rate among the highest in Europe, any new venture seemed as a highly risky. Portaal, the Dutch housing association, with the help of Rotal Networks has managed to beat the odds by successfully deploying an Optic Fiber network that would provide high-speed video, data, and voice communications to tens of thousands of households across the Netherlands.

Project Requirements

The project’s goal was to provide Triple Play and other telecom services to the households owned by the Housing Association. Rotal Network’s Solution Rotal Networks built and operated the FTTH (Fiber to the Home) network, including five regional Head-Ends across the Netherlands. This network delivers VOIP, Broadband services as well as analog TV broadcasts. Rotal Networks provided the Head-End equipment ,FTTH transport and Access equipment. In addition, Rotal Networks also provided System Integration services for the Head End setup. Since it launch in April 2005, Portaal has connected over 20,000 households to its network throughout five cities. Rotal Networks’ expertise in fiber optic solutions and its excellent product portfolio has been paramount to the project’s success.
