IRD / Receiver - The receivers’ goal is to collect and convert radio frequency, which is gathered from a wide range of sources, such as satellites feeds, to Multicast IP streams. The receiver is responsible for descrambling , decoding and re-multiplexing of multiple DVB transport streams It supports both MPEG-2/H.264 SD and HD broadcasts. Multi screen encoders – Provides advanced video encoding and transcoding into multi bit-rate multi-resolution streams suitable for Apple’s adaptive streaming to iPhone and iPad devices, Microsoft smooth streaming (IIS for Silverlight) and Adobe adaptive streaming players. Video on demand servers – video on demand server (VOD) offers a large library of content to users, allowing them to consume the content at their own convenience. The server streams the content directly to the end user and offers advanced functionality, such as Pause, FF, Rewind, and start from beginning. Middleware – refers to the software that integrates interactive TV services. The middleware handles the EPG (Electronic Program Guide), TV channels, VOD asset, Radio channels, network PVR, games etc. The middleware component delivers a high-performance user experience for a range of TV applications. It provides a rich, standards-based authoring environment to create customized user interfaces and is easily ported across set-top boxes (STBs). IP Set-top Box (CPE) – Set-top boxes are commonly located in customer homes to allow the reception of IP video on a television. The IP Set-top Box receives http multimedia pages/SVG pages for navigation (Middleware). It receives the IP streams from the network and decodes them for display on the TV according to the user’s selection. The input of a set-top box can be a dgital signal via DVB-C/S/T and/or IP interface.
